SAD:Politics to the Fore on Important Issues like Aadhaar & More!

The 9 Judge Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court has pronounced it's verdict that RIGHT TO PRIVACY is a Fundamental Right. I really don't understand why the opposition feels that it is a victory only for them and  that it gives them more arsenal to take on the government. And why is the government on the defensive as though it had lost something that may jeopardize it's capacity to function?

Will everybody on either side of the political divide keep a calm head and let people understand the full meaning of the verdict. For example why is there no attempt to teach people the difference  between Fundamental Right and Absolute Right?

It is this political one upmanship that is really dangerous to the country. And trying to harden stances based on logic , that are mostly irrelevant,  scuttles all chances that our country has to progress.

Nothing can illustrate it better than the Irony of the Aadhaar by exposing the illogical  , idiotic and irrelevant posturing of our political parties.

Up to 2014: The BJP led a vitriolic campaign against Aadhaar saying it was a big drain on the nation's finances and that illegal aliens (read Bangladeshis)  were being granted citizenship using it. Both these reasons were unfounded and in fact to the contrary  will actually  help find a solution for these two issues.  Nevertheless,  and good that it did,  the Congress continued with it in spite of opposition not only from outside but within the party also.  Remember the cold war between P. Chidambaram and Nandan Nilekani.

Post 2014: The BJP ,which opposed the Aadhaar tooth and nail, saw and reaped the benefits of Aadhaar.  In fact I have appreciated  Modi for swallowing his ego,  meeting with Nandan Nilekani and deciding to continue with Aadhaar by saying (as much as politics allows him to)  that he misunderstood the importance of Aadhaar.  Today this government insists on the Aadhaar for everything right from Birth to Death to Everything in between.  And there is documented proof that pilferage in government schemes has come down and specific targeting of schemes is possible with Aadhaar.  Not to forget,  fraudulent activities and economic offences too can be curbed. But the irony is the party which deserves full credit for conceiving the idea and setting it in to action is now wanting to kill it.  And I can't see anything other than malafide political intentions.

The Congress is trying to piggyback on Yesterday's Supreme Court ruling regarding "Right to Privacy. " to stop Aadhaar enrolment . I sometimes wonder what is privacy in this digital age.  In fact in a facebook post I had asked, partly in jest but mostly factual, that don't our internet service providers,  cab aggregators , credit card companies,  our smartphones with their apps and websites like Google, FB, Whatsapp know more about us than our spouses.  Where is the privacy? But why do we raise questions on privacy  when it comes to a game changer like Aadhar.  Haven't we read reports of bogus beneficiaries of schemes and subsidies being weeded out because of Aadhaar ? Haven't we heard of fake Pans and Bank Accounts being confiscated because of Aadhaar ?  Haven't we heard of the ease with which bank accounts can be opened with Aadhaar? Haven't we heard of how Direct Benefit Transfer happens because of Aadhaar?

Now saying it invades privacy is, I have to agree with the Government,  is nothing but an elitist point of view.

I hope ,wish and pray that people like Manmohan Singh come in defense of the Aadhaar keeping the politics aside. And he who said "History will judge me better" has to open his mouth as this was one of the good things he achieved.

And my advice to the present government and it's supporters, especially the online army,  keep a calm head , when there's genuine criticism see the reason and don't charge them with treason.
